Lego Marvel Super Heroes

Travelers Tales the guys behind the amazing Lego games have so far released games based on Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and Batman. They returned to the world of super heroes with this game, but this time it is Marvel and not DC.

Story & Presentation

The Lego games always have a great sense of humor and in Lego Batman 2 they introduced voice acting to the series. Lego Marvel Super Heroes keeps the voice acting, and it has some of the funniest voice acting you will ever hear. The story of the game sees Dr Doom trying to take over the world with the aid of Cosmic Bricks.

Cosmic Bricks are the broken pieces of Silver Surfers surfboard and they will give Dr Doom huge power. It’s up to S.H.I.E.L.D to get the best super heroes around including The Avengers, Spider-Man, The Fantastic 4 and The X-Men to name a few in order to stop him. The two sides though have to work together when Galactus comes to earth!

The game looks great it’s fair to say that this is the best looking Lego game to date. The versions on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One look much smoother, but all the versions are pretty easy on the eyes. The game just has so much fan service going on and the levels feature many classic Marvel areas such as The X-Men school, The Baxter Building and the S.H.I.E.L.D helli-carrier.

Gameplay

Let me say right now that Lego Marvel Super Heroes is has not changed the core game play of the Lego series at all. But what they have done is made this the best game in the Lego Series to date. They do this by fine-tuning the little things in the game like the combat, flying and the map.

The game has a story mode that sees you trying to stop Dr Doom & Galactus. You do this by playing through a ton of great levels and by beating various bosses. The story is awesome and is actually pretty long as well. When playing through the story mode you cannot pick who you want to be. For example the first level you have to be Iron Man & Hulk, with Spider-Man joining in early on. You can switch between these heroes and make use of their powers to beat the level. The way that the game uses the various different super powers is really cool.

Once you beat a level though you can go back and replay it as any hero that you have unlocked. First time you play a level you will notice in some areas that there is no way to access a certain part of the level. Well playing through them again as the right hero is a way to get to these new areas and snap up the extra items. This adds a great deal of replay value to the game and will make you play certain levels multiple times to see all they have to offer.

Like in Lego Batman 2, Lego Marvel Super Heroes has a free roaming part of the game as well. Here in between missions (from level 3) you can run around New York City doing whatever the heck you want. You can also do a bunch of side missions here, unlock more characters, get gold & red bricks, fight bad guys and in general just have fun. There is so much to do in New York City and it is designed very well also.

Final Thoughts

Lego Marvel Super Heroes is the best game in the Lego series. This is just such a well made game. And it is a great game to play if you have kids or a younger sibling. The crazy amount of characters and costumes that there are to unlock in this game will keep you busy for a very long time.
